What are Rashes?
It is highly likely that you’ve had a rash at some point or another, whether from a poisonous plant or the chickenpox or something even more unusual (not what you’re thinking). And you probably find yourself imagining why your skin breaks out in red spots like that. More importantly, if there’s anything you can do about it. Well, yes, there is.
In simple words, the cells in our body, whenever they detect any suspicious activity in our body, they begin a sort of chain reaction beneath the skin that results in inflammation. For all you more interested folks, the medical name for this is dermatitis but the less interested folks can address this as a rash.
Our skin acts as a barrier—keeping the insides of our bodies in, and whatever’s outside out. However, our skin also contains these special cells of the immune system, they protect the skin and body against viruses, bacteria and other threats. So, if you happen to notice an itchy or painful rash on your skin, don’t just wave it off thinking it’s another one of those mosquito bites. Besides that, don’t just go to the pharmacy and get some ointment, if you don’t know the cause. These ointments can sometimes make them even worse if taken carelessly. Because rashes can be caused by many different things—bacteria, viruses, drugs, allergies, genetic disorders, and even light—it’s important to figure out what kind of dermatitis you have and the best way to do that is to get yourself checked at a good dermatologist. A rash is not a specific diagnosis, after all.
After all, your skin is your ultimate protection. It isn’t just the shelter that keeps your body in, it is also your first line of defence against germs and chemicals. It’s important to remember to take good care of your skin so it can take care of you.
